The Last Blind Date ReviewI loved this book. It is hilarious and refreshing, because it was also kind - as opposed to the typical comedy books that are so sarcastic. The book was smart, warm, genuine and touching. A big part of the book is about the small little details in life - the ones we don't particularly notice, but when you read about it you can't believe how obvious it all is. Like when Yellin writes about the New York taxidriver or the checkout person at the supermarket. As someone new to New York, her observations are right on and that's what makes it so funny. Besides the characters are hysterical. Aside from the author herself, the mother!! I had to read some of her lines to my mother, because it sounded so familiar.

Then there is the romance part of the book - the touching part. A must read for all singles out there who have given up and for all marrieds who want to know how good couples interact. It's not this movie-like type of love where two people get together and run off into the sunset - it's real. There are children involved, there is a move to a different state and that can be quite difficult. But they get through it - and you feel the kindness and compassion between the couple. Interestingly, it's a love story but that is not at the forefront because all throughout there is that self-deprecating voice and that wicked sense of humor. I keep on trying to think who I can compare this to, but you really can't. I can say Erma Bombeck but younger, Chelsea Handler but kinder but that doesn't do the book justice. It's a voice that is unique and compelling. You can be sure that I will be reading the book again.
