Gertruda's Oath: A Child, a Promise, and a Heroic Escape During World War II ReviewThis is a beautiful, sensitively written testimony of an extraordinary woman, Gertruda and her charge, two year old Michael Stolowitzky. As with most all books written about this savage time in history, the book contains desperation, tragedy and deprivation. Though the author abstains from graphic detail and focuses on the beautiful, eternal bond between nanny and the child she raises as her own.
Gertruda, a Catholic was hired by the Stolowitzkys, a Jewish couple to look after their only son. What they may not have known was that Gertruda would love this child more than anything else on earth.
Although early on, Gertruda was paid for caring for Michael, for the most part she finds work so that she can afford to support him.
It is a passionate, enriching and chilling story of human strength, endurance and unconditional love, with author Ram Oren writes magnificently.
I highly suggest and reccomend reading this inspirational book.Gertruda's Oath: A Child, a Promise, and a Heroic Escape During World War II Overview
