Eddie Shore and that Old-Time Hockey ReviewAnybody who has been in the culture of hockey for more than ten minutes has heard of Eddie Shore. A lot of these stories paint Shore as an extrememly tough and scary guy, not only on the ice, but as a coach and manager off the ice. Eddie Shore is a bona fide tall-tale, and I can only imagine how difficult it was for Hiam to seperate the incredible-but-true from the apocraphal.
I started reading this book at my local Barnes & Noble, and I'm about three-quarters through now. I've put it down once to make dinner. Eddie Shore really, truly was an incredible character who should not be forgotten. More than the goon that he has been portrayed as, Shore was a human, and I think this book sheds a lot of light on his humanity.
Prior to this, the most in-depth idea I had about Shore came from watching "Keep Your Head Up, Kid: The Don Cherry Story" (which I also highly recommend). This book deserves four stars just for existing, but gets five for being everything I'd hoped for. And you... you deserve two minutes if you don't pick this book up and still claim to be a fan of hockey.Eddie Shore and that Old-Time Hockey Overview
