Riding Vengeance with the James Gang ReviewThis is a well written book based on facts from the results of the War between Kansas and Missouri during the Civil War. It covers the men sympathic to the south. Most of them were marginal farmers that suffered from the raids from Kansas Free Staters. They rode with Quantrill and their families lost their farms during the Border War. The young men who were sympathetic to the south learned to fight and were angry about their losses. After the war their former lives were distroyed and they reverted to outlaw behavior - thinking they were getting even with those who had prospered from the war.Riding Vengeance with the James Gang OverviewThis historical novel is an account of the James-Younger gang, from its innocent days as citizens at the outbreak of the Civil War to the gang's breakup after its fateful Northfield Raid. The book follows the different members through their experiences with Union brutality, their years as Confederate guerillas, and their outlaw years. By the time Cole Younger ends up in prison, the story has moved from freedom to a complete lack of options.
