Learn English the Fast and Fun Way for Russian Speakers ReviewSanta Claus brought a copy of this book for each of my newly adopted sons, for their very first Christmas. It was such a relief! The boys were struggling to learn English, with the help of English speakers, and it wasn't very helpful. (Imagine trying to learn a new language as someone jabbers at you, in that langauge). I'm a firm believer in "Learn it right, the first time around, and you'll be better off in the long run!" We played the tapes in the car on the way to and from school, each day. The boys would high-five and laugh out loud, as bits of grammar were explained to them, which they couldn't ask about (with their limited English) and couldn't understand when people were trying to explain it (in English). For example: Russian has "gender" (male or female) attached to practically EVERY noun. It's a grammar thing, and doesn't really make sense apart from grammar. (What gender do YOU think a chair is???) As any rate, I remember the boys' HUGE relief over finding that English doesn't have grammatical gender! Within a year, both boys were accurately fluent in English. In the case of one son, his RUSSIAN improved, as well!
