Mr. Stitch ReviewMr. Stitch is an extremely worthy sequel to The Translated Man, with the same colorful characters, and an equally interesting mystery. But this time the main character Beckett is starting to lose his touch, and Skinner has been let go from the Coroners because they don't employ women anymore. Danger is everywhere. If you start to get worried about the safety and survival of the main characters--keep worrying! This one is a real knuckle biter. Chris Braak is an original writer and happily you cannot count on him to serve up a staid, predictable ending to this highly unusual story. This book has a bit of a nihilist theme, where between the action the characters have to worry about what is the meaning of their lives if the foundations of everything that they believed in has been ripped away.
I read this in plain old print book form, so there were no technical problems. Like The Translated Man, Mr. Stitch had a few typos (including one on the first page--ouch!), but the writing was of such a high quality that I wasn't really fussed about it. Honestly, I think this was one of the best science fiction books of 2010, which is quite a feat for a self-published book. And, no, I haven't read all the sf books published in 2010, but who has? I would advise starting this series with The Translated Man, because there's a lot going on here in the world of Trowth and I think it might be a little bit confusing to begin reading in the middle.Mr. Stitch Overview
